Record a live session at the track

Last updated Sep 25, 2026

The Record tab captures your session live and gives you timing while you drive.

Steps

  1. Open the Record tab.
  2. Choose your source: Phone GPS or RaceBox (see Record with a RaceBox for pairing).
  3. Mount the phone with the screen on and a clear view of the sky.
  4. Wait for the GPS line under the timing card to read GPS good or GPS excellent, then tap Start recording. (Starting while it still says Acquiring GPS… works, but the first laps may be less accurate.) On a free account, the first tap shows what Free and Pro display while you drive — tap OK, then Start recording again.
  5. Drive. The HUD shows your current, best, and last lap times as you cross the line each lap. When the app recognises the circuit and has its surveyed start/finish line — today that's South Garda Karting — laps split at that line; everywhere else the line is set where your GPS first locks.
  6. Tap Stop when you come in. The session saves to Sessions and opens ready to analyze.

What you'll see while driving

  • Free: current lap, best lap, and last lap times, plus the slip/calibration bar.
  • Pro: a live projected lap time and delta-vs-best, updating in real time. See Predictive lap time and delta (Pro).

Tips

  • Start recording close to the track — on the grid or in the pit lane — not back in the paddock. Unless the circuit has a surveyed line, laps only count when you pass within about 30 metres of where GPS first locked. Out-laps are handled fine.
  • On iPhone, keep LapperSnapper on screen: switching apps or locking the phone stops and saves the recording. On Android, a phone-GPS recording keeps going in the background, with a Recording your session notification; a RaceBox recording stops and saves.
  • Keep the phone plugged in for long days; GPS and a bright screen use battery.
  • For a distraction-free view, switch to Drive mode: Use Drive mode (the full-screen HUD).
  • Live recording needs the iPhone or Android app — the web app can't record.
